Tutoring at Kumon
I love Math. But more than Math, working at Kumon helped me with patience, listening and how to be a good teacher.
Data Science & Python Internship at PK Global
As part of my high school classes I had opted for Java programming and it really gave me a new perspective about how software applications are built and how software is impacting our lives. I wanted to further my understanding on how programming and science are applied in the real world. With my background in Java and my interest in Math, I was able to obtain an internship at PK. I worked with the Data Science Project Lead and a data scientist. As part of this internship I learnt:
– Fundamentals of Python programming
– Fundamentals of data science
– Entrepreneurship
– Jupyter Notebooks
– Data collection techniques
STEMP ENGINEERING CAMP
I had the honor of being selected into a STEM CAMP conducted by the US AIR FORCE ACADEMY in Boulder Colorado after submitting my essay on engineering. It was one of the best experiences I have had. We were camped at the Academy in Boulder. We learnt about engineering through building.
We learnt about the importance and applications of physics and math in our building projects. The CAMP consisted of students selected from different high schools. We were divided into 9 teams of 6-8 members.
The Air Force Academy’s Motto was “BUILD THEN DESIGN”. So naturally, a lot of projects required us to think on our feet and learn to work as a team to build something functional quickly. For example, we were asked to build a water filtration system using only sand and rocks. We had to do that in a specific amount of time. The big project however, was the building of a 3 ton concrete slab. The slab had to be constructed in such a way that it withstood the most pounds per sq inch before cracking.
We had to think on our feet every day. I really enjoyed it. I learnt how to work in teams and how to lead projects. The best part was that our team (Team Hotel) won the grand prize and earned the label of the “TOP FLIGHT TEAM”!!
